General Treatment Principles

Treatment focuses on avoiding triggers and managing symptoms through:

  • Avoiding Irritants and Allergens: Identifying and avoiding substances that trigger dermatitis.
  • Protecting the Skin: Using personal protective equipment, especially for hand dermatitis.
  • Moisturizing:  Regular use of emollients to keep the skin hydrated.
  • Topical Steroids: To reduce inflammation and manage flare-ups.
  • Calcineurin Inhibitors: For inflammation without long-term steroid side effects.
  • New Therapies:  Including JAK inhibitors and biological therapies for severe cases.

Specific Treatments

  1. Atopic Dermatitis:  Emollients, topical steroids, and newer treatments like dupilumab.
  2. Contact Dermatitis:  Avoiding the allergen or irritant and using topical treatments.
  3. Seborrheic Dermatitis: Medicated shampoos, topical antifungals, and steroids.
  4. Dyshidrotic Dermatitis: Emollients, steroids, and avoiding prolonged water exposure.
