Causes
Excessive hair
Hirsutism can stem from various factors
• Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS): Imbalance of sex hormones, often leading to excess hair growth, irregular periods, and other symptoms.
• Cushing syndrome: High cortisol levels, either from adrenal gland issues or prolonged corticosteroid use.
• Congenital adrenal hyperplasia: An inherited condition causing abnormal steroid hormone production.
• Tumors: Rarely, tumors in the ovaries or adrenal glands can trigger hirsutism.
• Medications: Some drugs like minoxidil, danazol, testosterone, and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) can induce hirsutism.
